11th Irish Supercomputer List

The November 2018 Top500 Supercomputer List had a record eight new new Irish machines, bringing Ireland’s total number of current Top500 installations to 12, an all-time high over June 2018’s high of seven. The combined performance of these 12 machines is over 19.8 Petaflops, bringing the aggregate power of all 44 machines on the Irish Supercomputer List to over 25.4 Petaflops.

Another new entrant to the November 2018 Irish Supercomputer List is ICHEC’s new supercomputer, Kay, bringing 665 TFlops of performance with over 13,000 Intel Xeon Gold 6148 (Skylake) cores, 64 NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs and 16 Intel Xeon Phi accelerators.

Overall there were 9 new machines for November 2018. There are now 20 machines owned by “Software Company (M)” on the Irish Supercomputer List. It is believed that these are private industry machines not available to HPC researchers and academics, which is a growing cause of concern in the community.
